Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) is establishing a head office in Nusantara Capital (IKN), North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. President Joko Widodo conducted the groundbreaking ceremony to construct BTN’s office building (06/05).
President Jokowi’s vision for Nusantara as Indonesia’s future is a key driver behind BTN’s strategic investment in Nusantara Capital. His remarks at the event (06/05) underscored this alignment, stating, “I have often said that Nusantara is Indonesia’s future, and investing in IKN is like buying the future.”
BTN’s initiative to build a head office in Nusantara is not only a strategic move but also a response to the high demand for property investments in the region. President Jokowi’s appreciation for this initiative is rooted in the recognition that financing for property investments will be highly needed in IKN. He stated, “So if Bank BTN builds its head office or branches in Nusantara, it is not wrong as there will indeed be a lot of demand for financing for property investments in the Nusantara Capital.”
The need for transformation toward green energy in Nusantara
On this occasion, President Jokowi also highlighted Jakarta’s environmental conditions compared to those of other cities like Singapore, Melbourne, and Paris. With Jakarta’s air quality index still far from desired standards, he emphasized the need for transformation towards green energy and the use of environmentally friendly vehicles in Nusantara.
The presence of BTN in IKN is expected to strengthen other state-owned banks in the new capital. Although slightly delayed, Jokowi is optimistic that the economic transformation expected from the development of Nusantara Capital can be achieved according to the set timeline. “The most important thing is that the economic transformation we want from the development of Nusantara Capital can truly be achieved according to the set timeline,” he concluded.
