Heaptalk, Jakarta — The implementation of anti-dumping import duties has made the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) less concerned about the influx of imports. According to IISIA’s statement on Monday (03/17), this policy can maintain the national steel industry’s competitiveness and curb cheaper imported steel products.
Akbar Djohan, IISIA Chairman, stated that anti-dumping import duties help encourage the steel industry to boost its competitiveness. This policy allows producers to continue production without worrying about dumping practices. “With this policy, domestic producers can continue to operate optimally without being concerned about unfair trade practices that harm the industry,” said Akbar.
Akbar explained that anti-dumping import duties serve as a form of government protection for hot-rolled coil products, which are widely used in various industrial sectors. Hot-rolled coil is a steel product extensively utilized in the automotive, construction, and manufacturing industries.
Without adequate protection, the national steel industry risks declining production due to unbalanced competition with cheaper imported products sold at lower prices due to dumping practices. Akbar revealed, “Moving forward, we hope the government remains consistent in implementing anti-dumping policies and strengthens oversight of steel imports so that the national industry can develop sustainably.”
Meanwhile, Danang Prasta Danial, Chairman of the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), stated that his team would ensure the industry remains sustainable. According to him, the BMAD policy protects domestic production. “KADI will ensure that the domestic industry continues to exist and grow sustainably. Our spirit is to protect domestic production,” Danang concluded.
