Heaptalk, Jakarta — To celebrate the 24th anniversary of West Kutai Regency, the Youth and Sports Department holds a two-day dragon boat rowing competition on October 28-29, 2023.
The competition took place on the Mahakam River, around Melak River Boat Harbor, Melak District with a route of 1 km. A total of 20 teams took part in the competition with each team consisting of 18 people.
The activity was officially commenced by Melak District Head Mauliddin Said together with a member of the West Kutai Regional House of Representatives Yono Rustanto Gamas. There were several teams from outside West Kutai Regency. “The furthest participants in this dragon boat rowing competition come from Mahakam Ulu and Berau Regencies,” Mauliddin said.

One of the competition committee members Yudi explained that the preliminary round was held on the first day. Meanwhile, the second day continued with the women’s category, which was participated by 9 teams.
This dragon boat rowing competition is expected to be a means of motivating and showing off the abilities of the athletes of West Kutai and its surrounding regencies, especially in celebrating the special moment of West Kuta’s 24th anniversary. This activity is also a forum for activists and enthusiasts of this sport to hone their skills.
