Heaptalk, Jakarta — Repeating its success in 2022, West Kutai Government Regency broke the Indonesian Record Museum (Muri) record for mawig gawangk, about 10,000 people wearing traditional Dayak bags anjat at the peak of Dahau Sendawar Festival in celebration of West Kutai’s 24th anniversary.

This achievement was recorded in the Indonesian World Muri Records with award certificate no. 11376/R.MURI/XI/2023. The award certificate was handed over by the Marketing Director of Muri Awan Rahargo to West Kutai Regent FX Yapan (11/05).

In his remarks, Awan said that West Kutai is one of the most productive regencies in breaking Muri records. For this reason, he asked this regency to continue to innovate in breaking Muri’s records.

Meanwhile, Regent FX Yapan said that breaking Muri’s record is certainly a pride for West Kutai in the modern era, especially as this regency promotes local wisdom. “Anjat is one of the local wisdom that has received support from the West Kutai Regency Government. Anjat is also promoted to support the West Kutai tourist attraction which is currently increasingly developing,” voiced FX Yapan.

Preserving traditional Dayak bags as local wisdom

Apart from wearing traditional Dayak bags anjat, previously this regency has also succeeded in breaking records for other local wisdom, called seraung, a typical Dayak hat made from leaves embroidered with beads. FX Yapan added, “By breaking this record, the Regency Government wants the younger generation, children, and grandchildren to remain familiar with the local wisdom and culture of West Kutai.”

This year’s West Kutai Anniversary celebration was also enlivened with a colossal dance performance featuring multiple ethnicities in this regency. FX Yapan explained that this performance aims to depict the condition of West Kutai which is filled with diverse ethnicities who live side by side safely, comfortably, and peacefully as well as join hands towards an increasingly advanced regency.

Regarding IKN, FX Yapan conveyed directly to President Jokowi that his party strongly supports the development of IKN in East Kalimantan Province. “As a buffer area, West Kutai is very ready to support (IKN) both through the agricultural, livestock, fisheries, plantations, and other sectors,” concluded FX Yapan.
