Heaptalk, Jakarta — West Kutai Regency Government through the Community and Village Empowerment Department (DPMK) held several competitions to commemorate the 24th Regency Anniversary, namely the best Village-Owned Enterprise (Badan Usaha Milik Kampung-BUMK), best village funds, food security, and best village fund allocation.
According to the Head of the East Kutai DPMK Erik Victory, in the 24th year of regency, villages experienced rapid progress. “This competition is a form of gratitude to God as long before the expansion of regencies, development in villages was not given maximum attention. “But with the expansion and village funds starting to be disbursed in 2014, villages were starting to receive attention, either through village fund allocations or other financial assistance,” explained Erik.
One of the aims of the competition is to encourage villages to manage village funds utilizing multiple assessment indicators. Erik hoped that these competitions could encourage other villages to be more orderly and better at managing administration and finances at the village level.
Erik voiced, “For the assessment, DPMK coordinates with relevant stakeholders such as BPKP/Inspectorate and the Ministry of Villages through village assistants. Thus, DPMK did not immediately determine the winner in the category itself, but involved several stakeholders.”
Further, Erik explained that the 188 BUMK units in West Kutai could be encouraged to be more active in improving the economy of the community in the village. “Currently, of the 188 BUMK units, there are still around 60% that are not very active. This condition is certainly a motivation for DPMK to improve it in the next year,” Erik said.
Therefore, DPMK is currently intensively carrying out guidance and development of BUMK, one of which is through the BUMK competition which produces the three best villages. “We hope that the three villages coming out as winners of the BUMK competition will be a motivation for other BUMKs,” concluded Erik.
