“We can interact, exchange information, and collaborate as one of the essential elements in digitalization is collaboration,” said the Head of East Kalimantan Diskominfo.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kalimantan Provincial Communication and Informatics Department (Diskominfo) takes part in the Digital Transformation Indonesia Conference and Expo (DTI-CX) 2023 which is held at the Grand Ballroom, JIExpo Convention Center and Theater, Jakarta on July 26-27.
During the two-day conference, DTI-CX presents outstanding speakers, spanning decision-makers, industry leaders, and technology experts, across diverse fields, such as banking and finance, telecommunications, manufacturing, healthcare, infrastructure, logistics and transportation, utilities, FMCG, as well as education.
Head of the East Kalimantan Diskominfo Muhammad Faisal participates as a speaker at the panel discussion session entitled ‘Shaping the future of Indonesia’s Smart Cities through digital transformation’ on July 27, 2023.
According to Faisal, the event which carries the theme ‘Transforming people, business, and society’ brings together digital players throughout Indonesia. “We can interact, exchange information, and collaborate as one of the essential elements in digitalization is collaboration. Hopefully what is expected from today’s theme can be achieved,” Faisal said while attending the first day of DTI-CX 2023 at JIExpo Jakarta (07/26)
Further, Faisal admitted that this event, which not only presents an exhibition but also a series of seminars, is beneficial for improving knowledge for himself and his Diskominfo colleagues. He voiced, “Our target is to introduce our staff to the latest updates. I brought a number of staff and department heads who are in charge of the software, hardware, network, etc.”
In addition, Faisal who also is Chair of the Association of Indonesian Provincial Communication and Informatics Department (Askompsi) revealed that DTI-CX is a means of interaction for all Diskominfo colleagues. Through this event, he hopes that Askompsi members can learn about the current developments in digital technology, especially related to knowledge, hardware, and infrastructure to promote digital development in the regions.
Accelerating digital infrastructure and literacy
Responding to digital developments in East Kalimantan, Faisal acknowledged that there is a significant gap compared to Java. However, the Provincial Government is trying to accelerate digital transformation, primarily with the transfer of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) to the Province in Samboja and Sepaku Districts, North Penajam Paser Regency.
“We are pushing the acceleration of the digital transformation process primarily due to the relocation of the IKN. Therefore, we have to accelerate everything, including governance, infrastructure, HR, and service levels. Since last year, we have been racing not to be far behind IKN,” explained Faisal.
In more detail, this acceleration is carried out through several sectors, one of which is telecommunication. The East Kalimantan Government is working with provider partners in reducing blank spots by accelerating fiber optic installations to open internet access in villages. In 2022, internet access has been provided in 39 villages, while in 2023 it will be implemented in 55 villages.
Apart from that, the local government has made several digital infrastructure breakthroughs such as building data centers, providing dashboards and open data, and accelerating digital literacy. “We do not want our society’s literacy to remain low as our digital transformation accelerates. Next year, we will boost digital literacy to prepare our people for a real digital transformation, especially when IKN is moved here,” Faisal concluded.
