Heaptalk, Jakarta — Tangerang Acting Regent Andi Ony plans to bring Tangerang Regency‘s distinctive woven and bamboo hats to the global stage, following the creative economy self-assessment carried out by the Indonesian Creative Regency/City Independent Assessment (PMK3I) delegation.

Andi hopes that the self-assessment evaluation of creative regencies/cities by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) can spur the growth of Tangerang Regency’s creative economy to the global level. “We hope this activity can trigger the growth of the creative economy in Tangerang Regency, especially in the handicraft sector in this area where we highlight bamboo weaving/bamboo hats, bamboo crafts, scout hats, and others,” Andi said when welcoming the PMK3I delegation at the Vivere Hotel Gading Serpong, Kelapa Dua District, on Tuesday (07/09).

According to Andi, the self-assessment conducted on July 2-5, 2024, found that Tangerang Regency was among the top 80 independent creative regencies/cities. This is certainly an achievement and pride for all the people of Tangerang Regency. The creative industry of Tangerang Regency, particularly the bamboo handicraft sector, has become more well-known to the public and can gain a more comprehensive market network.

“The bamboo handicraft sector, as the pride of Tangerang Regency, has become more recognized and has a wider network. Hopefully, we can enter the UNESCO Creative Cities Network to make the bamboo handicrafts of Tangerang Regency go global,” he voiced. He also expressed his gratitude to all the ranks of the Ministry and expected their support, guidance, and assistance to the bamboo handicraft artisans in Tangerang Regency to exist and be sustainable.

Meanwhile, the Director of Creative Economy Infrastructure of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Oneng Setya Harini, said the purpose of the creative economy self-assessment is to identify the potential of the creative economy ecosystem in districts/cities through a bottom-up mechanism of filling out forms and field assessments. “We, PMK3I, Kemenparekraf, carry out field verification to the locations or actors of the three creative economy subsectors to discuss and conduct direct interviews,” Oneng said.

According to Oneng, the assessment and identification results found several prominent highlights in Tangerang Regency, especially in the bamboo handicraft sector. “It has been agreed that the bamboo handicraft subsector will be the leading creative economy subsector of Tangerang Regency. This subsector is expected to become a locomotive for other creative economy subsectors, including culinary, cultural arts, and others,” Oneng concluded.
