Heaptalk, Jakarta — Tangerang City won the grand championship at the Regional Student Sports Week (Popda) XI Banten and the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) Banten 2022.
Acting Mayor of Tangerang City, Nurdin, expressed his delight at the Tangerang City delegation’s achievement, marking the first time in Popda’s history that they have emerged as grand champions. “Thank God, we are all filled with gratitude and pride as Tangerang City has achieved the grand championship at Popda XI Banten,” Nurdin said at the closing ceremony of Popda XI Banten at Benteng Reborn Stadium, Tangerang City, on Thursday (06/13).
This achievement demonstrates the commitment and hard work of all parties involved, including athletes, coaches, officials, and the entire Tangerang City Government, in preparing to be the host and ultimately winning Popda XI Banten. He stated, “Thank you for the hard work and dedication of all athletes, coaches, officials, and everyone involved in leading Tangerang City to achieve the overall championship at Popda XI Banten.”
Nurdin also appreciated all contingents from districts and cities across Banten Province who participated in Popda XI Banten. “The spirit of sportsmanship and friendship forged during Popda XI Banten is an essential asset for athletes to continue excelling at higher levels, both nationally and internationally,” he added.
Additionally, Nurdin hopes that this achievement will motivate students in Tangerang City to keep training and excelling in sports and other fields, making Tangerang City a hub for sports tourism. He said, “I hope that the Popda event and this achievement will motivate students in Tangerang City to keep excelling, not only in sports but also in other areas.”
At the same event, Acting Governor of Banten, Al Muktabar, extended his congratulations and high appreciation to the athletes who have dedicated themselves to sports. Their achievements, which result from hard work and sacrifice, deserve to be celebrated.
“Thank God, this event went smoothly and successfully. We congratulate Tangerang City on their achievement as overall champions and thank them for being excellent hosts. Popda is not just about competitions and medals but also a crucial moment in advancing sports careers and the spirit of sportsmanship. Besides achievements, sports have also become a part of the industry that can boost the regional economy,” Al Muktabar said.
In Popda, the Tangerang City delegation demonstrated their dominance by winning the most gold medals among the contingents, with 94 gold medals, 74 silver medals, and 67 bronze medals, totaling 235 medals.
