Heaptalk, Jakarta — South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie announced that the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) extension project to South Tangerang will soon be realized. According to Benyamin, all parties are serious about ensuring the project’s immediate construction.

“We hope it will proceed as planned as PT MRT and BSD stakeholders are serious about making it happen,” Benyamin told reporters on Sunday (05/04).

The project design has completed the feasibility study stage. Several focus group discussions (FGDs) have been conducted with various stakeholders, including the central government (Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Bappenas, and Ministry of Transportation); regional governments (Jakarta and Banten provincial administrations, Tangerang Regency government); Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ); and PT MRT Jakarta.

The FGDs aimed to determine the optimal route alignment and financing model for the Jakarta MRT extension to South Tangerang. “PT MRT and stakeholders will conduct more detailed studies covering the route alignment, transportation mode, and financing scheme,” Benyamin added.

South Tangerang Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga Ichsan explained that a key aspect of the study is determining the most optimal route. Two route options are being considered. “The route hasn’t been finalized yet. We’re still deciding between passing through Pondok Cabe or Ciputat as the first option, with Bintaro as the second option. We’re evaluating which would be faster and more efficient to implement,” Pilar said, as quoted from the South Tangerang City Government website.

Based on PT MRT Jakarta’s preliminary study, the project will include two potential corridors: a northern corridor and a southern corridor. The north corridor will follow the Pondok Aren-Serpong route, while the south will pass through Ciputat-Pondok Cabe. Both routes will connect to the central station at Lebak Bulus in Jakarta. Pilar expressed optimism about the project’s benefits, saying, “These two corridors will significantly improve mobility and boost economic activity in South Tangerang.”
