Heaptalk, Jakarta — Raja Ampat Regency has unveiled a new infrastructure project: a building of the Waisai Port Passenger Terminal. Raja Ampat Regent Abdul Faris Umlati (AFU) inaugurated the terminal building on Tuesday (09/17).
The inauguration of this public facility coincided with National Transportation Day (Harhubnas) 2024. It included signing a commemorative plaque and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Regent AFU, accompanied by local government officials in Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua Province. “This terminal not only serves as a transportation hub but also symbolizes progress and infrastructure development in this maritime regency,” stated Regent AFU.
Waisai Port is the main gateway for tourists and essential goods entering Raja Ampat. With the establishment of this modern passenger terminal, it is expected to enhance the comfort and safety of passengers and streamline maritime transportation.
“This will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the region’s economic development, particularly in the tourism sector, which is a key focus for Raja Ampat,” said AFU. Infrastructure construction, such as the passenger terminal, is part of the local government’s commitment to improving public services.
According to AFU, reliable transportation is crucial for a region’s advancement. Better facilities can attract more tourists, improve community mobility, and facilitate the distribution of goods. “Ultimately, all of this will enhance the welfare of the people of Raja Ampat,” he added, urging the local community to take care of and make the most of the facilities at the port. The terminal, located within the Waisai port area, took seven years to construct and had a budget of approximately Rp60 billion, sourced from the Raja Ampat Regency’s Regional Budget.
