Heaptalk, Jakarta — The National Temporary Data Center (PDNS) 2’s services, impacted by a cyberattack, have now been fully restored. Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Nezar Patria revealed that all priority public services affected have returned to normal operations.

“As of August 25, all priority public services have been 100% restored, and the data affected by the ransomware has been successfully decrypted, meaning all data is now accessible again,” Nezar explained while accompanying Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, at a working meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

Nezar stated that the review process of PDNS 2 has also been completed, and they are awaiting validation from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to ensure compliance with data security regulations. “We aim to comply with the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of data, two different storage media, and one off-site backup. Of the 18 security recommendations, 16 have been implemented, while two, related to cryptography services and hot backup, are still being implemented,” he added.

The ongoing improvements in PDNS management include strengthening the system architecture, backup environment, and security and governance. Enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of PDNS users is also a key focus,” he stated.

Nezar acknowledged the challenges related to the availability of funds, which are still far from meeting operational needs. He noted that to enable government cloud services to serve 53 agencies with over 11,000 virtual assets, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics requires a budget of Rp486 billion in 2025.

“PDNS needs a budget of Rp542 billion for 2024, but only Rp257 billion is available. This means the operational budget for PDNS for October 2024 is still uncertain. For 2025, only Rp27 billion, or around 5.6% of the required funds, is available. This situation risks disrupting service continuity,” he explained.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is also completing the National Data Center (PDN) 1 construction in Cikarang, West Java. As of September 15, 2024, construction of PDN 1 has reached 83% and is targeted for completion in October 2024. He said, “With operational testing scheduled from November to December, PDN 1 is expected to be fully operational in January 2025, with BSSN involved in the design of ICT and cybersecurity.”

Nezar stressed the importance of collaboration and budget support to ensure the sustainability of PDNS and the development of PDN. “We are continuously striving to find the best solutions to ensure public services run smoothly and to strengthen national digital infrastructure to support Indonesia’s digital transformation,” Nezar concluded.
