Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his officials to stop fuel imports, emphasizing that Indonesia can rely on its domestic palm oil-based biofuel resources instead.
“From palm oil, we can produce 65 to 67 derivative products, including fuel. Our country does not need to import fuel from anywhere. We must realize that we spend nearly $40 billion annually on fuel imports when we are self-sufficient. Under my leadership, I am determined that Indonesia will achieve fuel self-sufficiency within the next five years. We must achieve energy independence,” Prabowo stated Thursday (05/08).
He emphasized that Indonesia must become self-reliant and stand on its own feet. “We must be aware that Indonesia is—and will continue to be—targeted by other nations. We don’t want to interfere with others, but they interfere with us as we are rich in resources,” he asserted.
Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia is exceptionally wealthy in natural resources, possessing the world’s largest nickel reserves and a global leader in palm oil production. He noted that palm oil has become a strategic commodity, with high demand from multiple countries. “Wherever I go—whether it’s Egypt, Pakistan, India, or even European nations—they plead: Your Excellency, please prioritize Indonesia’s palm oil exports for us,” he shared.
During his speech, Prabowo also addressed skeptics who doubt Indonesia’s ability to achieve energy self-sufficiency by halting fuel imports. “We can do it. That’s why all parties must support this mission to make energy independence a reality,” he concluded.
