Heaptalk, Jakarta — The National Data Center (PDN) is still being hacked by Brain Cipher ransomware. This has prompted Pelindo to relocate most of its data to private company Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud storage, which was previously stored at the National Data Center (PDN).
“Reflecting on past experiences, where Pelindo often faced cyberattacks, and now PDN is also affected, we decided to move our data to AWS gradually. We chose AWS because it is safer and not affected by any viruses due to its cloud capabilities,” said Arif Suhartono, Pelindo’s CEO, in a press release in Jakarta some time ago.
This state-owned enterprise considers cloud data storage relatively safer since data is stored in a divided room, resulting in higher protection. Pelindo will gradually move all its data to this privately managed cloud. This effort aims to anticipate the worst possible scenarios in the future, such as cyberattacks that once threatened a significant port in Australia. After the move to the cloud, the company expects its data to be more secure and protected.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transportation, Sigit Hani Hadiyanto, emphasized that the data center for all Ministry of Transportation services is located at the Center for Data and Information (Pusdatin). No wonder this institution was not affected by the Brain Cipher ransomware attack. He said, “Our central system is at Pusdatin. Thus far, we have not identified any service disruptions at the Ministry of Transportation.”
This ministry is also mitigating by moving data storage to the cloud to prevent any adverse incidents. “Learning from the PDN hostage situation, we are backing up data to the cloud. Thus, our data is safe and protected,” Sigit concluded.
