The 1st Workshop on JICA Project 2023 covered several topics, spanning EV production roadmaps, battery standardization, battery safety and recycling issues, and investment promotion.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are collaborating to develop the electric vehicle (EV) industry in Indonesia, which began with the recent 1st Workshop on JICA Project 2023.
This workshop discussed essential topics, covering electric vehicle production roadmaps, battery standardization, battery safety and recycling issues, as well as investment promotion of Japanese companies in Indonesia. Apart from that, the JICA Consultant Team also presented the agenda and objectives of the JICA Project 2023.
According to the Director General of Resilience, Regional and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry, Eko S.A. Cahyanto, this event aims to provide information to relevant stakeholders in Indonesia regarding JICA’s plan to carry out a data collection program and study on industrial development and supply chain strengthening of electric motorcycles in Indonesia
“This project will involve studies on battery standardization, surveys on demand for electric motorbikes and battery exchange services, pilot projects, as well as surveys on the impact on existing manufacturers of conventional motorcycle parts,” said Eko in Jakarta (07/24).
Discussing the impact of developing the EV ecosystem
Additionally, this workshop is an opportunity for the Ministry of Industry and JICA to listen to technical input from relevant stakeholders. Eko said, “The discussions focused on important issues such as a survey of the electric motor vehicle component supply chain in Indonesia, the impact of the development of the electric motor vehicle industry ecosystem, as well as the preparation of terms of reference for the main activities of the project.”
Further, as a follow-up to this workshop, the Ministry of Industry and JICA will continue to coordinate in implementing the JICA Project 2023 plan. The Ministry of Industry’s Directorate of Access to Industrial Resources and International Promotion (ASDIPI) will facilitate the implementation of the survey, and coordination with several ministries/agencies and related associations.
“This collaboration is an important step to drive economic growth, innovation, and technological transformation. It is hoped that the electric vehicle industry can develop rapidly in Indonesia, create new jobs, and reduce the environmental impact of the use of conventional motorized vehicles,” concluded Eko.
In essence, the 1st Workshop on JICA Project 2023 is one of the bilateral collaboration schemes between Indonesia and Japan in developing the manufacturing industry, particularly in strengthening the electric vehicle ecosystem. The Indonesian government seeks to create a conducive business climate for investors from Japan, one of which is by facilitating business licensing and strengthening investment facilitation services.
