Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) will soon establish a special regional government (pemdasus) to accelerate the development and management of Indonesia’s new capital in East Kalimantan.
Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority, emphasized that the formation of this special government aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to transform Nusantara into a modern, sustainable, and inclusive center of governance and economic activity.
“Under the special authority granted by Law No. 3/2022 on the State Capital (IKN Law), Law No. 21/2023 on Amendments to the IKN Law, and Government Regulation No. 27/2023, the IKN Special Regional Government will operate with far broader powers than a conventional regional administration,” Basuki stated.
Preparations for the special government are advancing alongside physical infrastructure development, including completing the State Palace complex, constructing 47 residential towers for 13,810 civil servants, developing clean water systems, and deploying electric bus services.
Basuki emphasized that the IKN Special Regional Government will enhance governance coordination, investment facilitation, and public services, targeting full operational readiness as Indonesia’s political capital by 2028. “Pemdasus isn’t only an ordinary regional administration. We’re empowered to manage IKN as a smart city driving economic transformation and environmental preservation,” Basuki concluded in the press release on Sunday (04/27).
