Heaptalk, Jakarta —  The Bali Provincial Government officially inaugurated the underground Light Rail Transit (LRT) project valued at Rp167 trillion. The commencement of the project was marked by the Pengeruwakan ceremony held at the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Central Parking in Kuta, Badung, Bali.

The CEO of PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya (SBDJ), Ari Ashkara, says the development of the Bali LRT will take place in four phases. The first phase involves the 16-kilometer LRT route from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Kuta Central Parking—Seminyak—Berawa—Cemagi.

The second phase will cover the 13.5-kilometer route from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Udayana University (Unud)—Nusa Dua.

The third phase, which is still undergoing a feasibility study, will include the route from Kuta Central Parking to Sesetan – Renon – Sanur. The fourth phase, also under a feasibility study, will connect Renon – Sukawati – Ubud.

“The construction of the first phase from Ngurah Rai Airport to Kuta Central Parking, along with the entire second phase, is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2028, with full operations projected by the end of 2031,” Askhara added.

He noted that completing the first phase involving the underground LRT will take longer due to the high difficulty level, as the construction must pass through rocky and rugged terrain.

“The total investment for the first two phases is valued at US$10.8 billion (Rp 167 trillion), while the total cost for all four phases is estimated at US$20 billion,” he revealed.

Askhara emphasized that the Bali LRT project results from an initiative by the Bali Provincial Government in collaboration with PT SBDJ and PT Bumi Indah Prima (BIP). This partnership aims to establish a mass public transportation system based on rail in Bali.

PT SBDJ has appointed PT Indotek as the main contractor for the project’s construction, working alongside China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). These companies will collaborate with local contractor PT Sinar Bali Bina Karya (Sinar Bali).
