Heaptalk, Jakarta — Not all religious community organizations, including Muhammadiyah, accept the government’s offer to manage mines.
In a press release on Wednesday (06/05), Chairman of the Central Executive Board Muhammadiyah Saad Ibrahim emphasized that his organization would not hastily accept the government’s offer to manage mining businesses. According to him, PP Muhammadiyah would first consider the offer’s positive and negative aspects and assess its available resources.
“We still have to look at the positives and negatives, as well as our capabilities in that field,” emphasized Saad Ibrahim.
However, Ibrahim revealed that Muhammadiyah has yet to receive any government offers regarding mining business management permits. “Not yet, but if we do receive an offer, we will carefully evaluate it to decide whether to accept it,” he concluded.
President Joko Widodo has previously permitted religious community organizations to manage mining operations. This permission is outlined in Government Regulation Number 25 of 2024 which amends Government Regulation Number 96 of 2021 on Implementing Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities, specifically in Article 83A Paragraph (1) signed on May 30.
The regulation states that to enhance community welfare, Special Mining Business Permit Areas (WIUPK) can be prioritized for business entities owned by religious community organizations, including Muhammadiyah.
