Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) announced that the recovery data from the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) breach had reached about 90%.
The Director General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Hokky Situngkir, revealed, “The government continues to restore the PDNS, which was hacked several times ago. The current progress is 90%,”
According to Hokky, most priority services have been restored, with the remaining work focusing on internal service management. Nevertheless, the Ministry cannot directly intervene in the services; it is up to reach the respective entity.
The newly appointed Director General, who replaced Samuel Abrijani Pangerapan, refused to clarify which priority services had been restored. The PDNS breach incident reportedly disrupted the service of hundreds of central and regional agencies. As for the financial losses incurred by the state and involved parties, Hokky could not yet provide specific figures. Hokky also mentioned that the Ministry is still recovering other data and expects the compromised data to be fully restored.
“As of now, we still need to determine the detailed figures available,”
On June 20, 2024, Kominfo’s PDNS 2 in Surabaya was hit by a ransomware cyberattack. The ransomware, Brain Chiper Ransomware, is a malware designed to encrypt data. As a result, essential data at several national public institutions was locked and inaccessible.
Following the incident, the former Director General of Informatics Applications, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, resigned on July 4, 2024. Then, Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi officially appointed Hokky Situngkir as the new Director General of Informatics Applications.
