Heaptalk, Jakarta — Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry, expressed her appreciation to the Industry and Trade Office of the Yogyakarta Special Region Province and all parties involved in the development of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) Ndalem Kulit Jogja (NKJ).
“To increase the productivity and competitiveness of small and medium industries, the Ministry of Industry continues to actively promote the development of small and medium industry centers throughout the country,” Reni stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (04/20).
Reni explained that developing small and medium industry centers is expected to create a multiplier effect in strengthening the overall industrial ecosystem through the downstream processing of local raw materials into quality products and developing SME industrial communities in specific regions. “One of the efforts made to support the development of these centers is through the use of the Special Physical Allocation Fund for the small and medium industry sector,” she added.
Reni also noted that the leather and leather products industry is one of Indonesia’s sub-sectors with significant potential. Nationally, Indonesia’s export value for leather and leather products in 2024 reached US$4.6 billion, an increase of about 8% compared to the previous year.
This export value was dominated by leather footwear, totaling US$3.1 billion or 69% of total leather and leather product exports, followed by leather bags and similar products at US$1.1 billion or 25.6%. “According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, leather goods are among the top four export commodities from the Yogyakarta Special Region. This demonstrates that Jogja leather products have strong potential and should be further developed,” she said.
Reni expressed her hope that the Yogyakarta Provincial Government, through its Industry and Trade Office, will continue to optimize the role of UPTD Ndalem Kulit Jogja, which plays a strategic role in supporting small and medium leather industry players in the province, through collaboration with various stakeholders.
“The government’s commitment is also reflected in the allocation of Non-Physical Special Allocation Funds for 2025, which will be used for the development of UPTD NKJ and the National Industrial Design Center (PDIN),” she stated.
Furthermore, Reni highlighted UPTD Ndalem Kulit Jogja’s various strategic roles, including providing facilities and infrastructure for leather artisans, developing human resource skills in the leather sector, offering business guidance and mentoring, fostering partnerships, and expanding promotion and marketing efforts. “Currently, 42 small and medium industries are part of and benefit from UPTD NKJ, and we hope this number will continue to grow and cover a wider scope,” she concluded.
