Heaptalk, Jakarta — Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) continues to enhance digital literacy for society, which is expected to support a peaceful general election in 2024.
In collaboration with the National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD), Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, revealed that the Minister has managed to reach over 14,000 participants in diverse Indonesian regions.
“This activity is part of a communication strategy which includes data mapping of Indonesia’s Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Kominfo, and the local community in establishing the content of a peaceful general election in Indonesia,” Affirmed the Minister during the meeting related to Information Dissemination and ICT Infrastructure Support for the 2024 Election.
The Ministry also continues to enhance digital literacy for people in 26 provinces in the archipelago in 2024, besides producing video content, public service advertisements (PSAs), social media content, and press releases to mitigate the spread of hoaxes and maintain the conduciveness of the digital space. Minister Budi has also planned to produce 100 pieces of digital literacy content creatively devoted to the vulnerable regions of general elections next year.
Simultaneously, the Ministry has tackled hoax issues regarding this matter. This prevention endeavor is a part of the MoU essence that the Ministry arranged by working with the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the General Election Commission, and the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP).
“We have identified and published clarifications on 96 findings of hoax issues regarding the General Election from July to November 2023. The number of issues is spread across 355 hoax content, of which we have taken down 290 hoax content, and the rest are still being handled,” affirmed Budi.
With these prevention efforts, Minister Budi believes that strengthening synergy and cooperation is a joint effort to encourage people to choose wisely and maintain peace in the digital landscape.
