Heaptalk, Jakarta — To safeguard coastal areas, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stated on Sunday (03/09) in Jakarta that the giant seawall project is ready to be realized. “The giant seawall project must be realized as part of efforts to protect coastal areas,” said Agus Harimurti.
AHY emphasized that climate change factors must be seriously considered in spatial planning and developing more adaptive infrastructure. He stated, “With strong coordination and concrete actions on the ground, it is hoped that flood management through the giant seawall can be more effective and sustainable.”
Regarding the project’s regulations, AHY explained that it is outlined in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 on the Narrative of the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2025-2029. “The content of the Presidential Regulation states that the giant seawall on the North Coast of Java is included in the national strategic projects for 2025-2029,” Agus clarified.
The planned locations include DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Banten, and Central Java. National Strategic Projects can be initiated/proposed and implemented by the central government, regional governments, state-owned enterprises, or private businesses.
Projects proposed and implemented by entities other than the central government represent contributions from regional governments, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and private businesses toward achieving the National Medium-Term Development Plan targets, which require government support.
The planning, implementation, and control of national strategic projects are integral parts of the national development planning process. National strategic projects are determined annually according to the timeframe for implementing development priorities and project readiness, including funding availability, and based on the President’s approval. The designation of national strategic projects is carried out through the government work plan mechanism.
