Heaptalk, Jakarta – Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait announced that government will allocate 2,000 subsidized housing units for online ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers in Indonesia.
The announcement came following a meeting between Minister Maruarar—also known as Minister Ara—and GoTo CEO Patrick Walujo, representatives from BP Tapera, and BTN Commercial Director at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on April 8.
Minister Ara detailed the plan, stating, “We will distribute 1,000 subsidized housing units for online taxi drivers and another 1,000 units for online motorbike taxi drivers.”
Attending this meeting, GoTo CEO Patrick Walujo expressed his appreciation for the government’s attention to the needs of lower-income citizens, especially online ride-hailing drivers who often struggle to access proper housing.
“We hope this subsidized housing credit initiative will encourage our driver-partners to work with greater focus and motivation. Many of them still do not have decent homes, and this effort aligns with President Prabowo’s strong commitment to supporting Indonesia’s underprivileged communities,” Walujo said.
He also thanked Minister Ara for the opportunity to discuss challenges in implementing this housing program, particularly with partners such as BTN. These issues include the need for easier loan access, flexible payment schemes for daily-earning drivers, and other common barriers drivers face when applying for subsidized home loans.
To ensure accurate and targeted distribution, the Ministry is also working closely with Statistics Indonesia (BPS) to identify low-income individuals.
“We’ve partnered with Statistics Indonesia so the distribution can be confirmed directly—by name and by address. This initiative follows President Prabowo’s directive to ensure subsidized housing goes to the right people,” said Minister Ara.
