Heaptalk, Riau Islands – The Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology (Kominfo) Budi Arie put the spotlight on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Indonesia’s broadcasting industry. Preparing the industry for the influence of this latest technology, Budi encouraged the entire stakeholders to jointly create the roadmap of the industry.
According to Minister Budi, the national broadcast industry is highly adaptive to face digital technology challenges. Budi delivered that throughout 2023, the business performance of TV stations demonstrated significant growth with an increase in advertisement of 10.3% or USD 1.4 billion.
“This positive projection is one of the main indicators which proved the high adaptivity of this industry (broadcasting industry) to the dynamics and challenges caused by the robust technology development,” stated Budi when attending the peak event of the 90th National Broadcast Day representing the President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo at Bintan Regency, Riau Islands (08/12).
Budi, further, explained that the rapid AI development will exponentially revolutionize the broadcasting industry, particularly in terms of content production, user engagement, and technology in advertising. This technology also is estimated to create more challenges, such as eliminating multiple jobs and leading to various ethical issues.
For these reasons, the Ministry invites entire stakeholders to discuss the impact of this technology. “From this study, together, we will draft a roadmap to ensure that the broadcasting industry can remain empowered and sovereign in the future,” said Budi.
