Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), in collaboration with digital platforms, has committed to moderating the spread of misinformation related to the upcoming Regional Head Elections 2024. This initiative aims to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process.
“The digital platforms and the Ministry Kominfo have established a joint task force, expecting to obtain a more quickly response. For the next 55 days, we will patrol together,” Minister of Communication and Information Technology Budi Arie Setiadi said.
The Minister also noted that the spread of misinformation related to the 2024 Regional Elections has been relatively low. However, creating the Joint Task Force is a preventive measure to avoid significant increases.
“There has been a significant decrease in 2024. Only six cases of election-related misinformation have been identified so far, and we hope this number will not see a significant rise until the election is held,” he explained.
Minister Budi Arie urged all candidates and campaign teams participating in the 2024 elections to protect the digital space from false information.
“I ask everyone to campaign ethically and refrain from spreading hoaxes,” he emphasized.
The Minister also called on all parties, including media professionals, to foster a peaceful and educational atmosphere for the elections.
“We must work together to ensure the 2024 Regional Elections are conducted smoothly. We ask for the media’s cooperation, along with the platforms, to help us create a wiser, calmer, more peaceful, and more educational digital environment for the public,” he concluded.
