Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has opened a public consultation on the Draft Ministerial Regulation on the Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum in the 2.6 GHz Band.
This frequency is intended to provide high-speed internet of up to 100 Mbps at an affordable price. Previous estimates suggest the cost could range from Rp100,000 to Rp150,000 per month. The move is part of the implementation of Law No. 12 of 2011 on the Establishment of Legislation, emphasizing the importance of public participation in regulatory development.
The public consultation will remain open until May 26, 2025, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback on the Draft Ministerial Regulation on the Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum in the 2.6 GHz Band. This regulation is part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate the optimization of radio frequency spectrum, particularly in support of the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), which sets a target of 100 Mbps mobile broadband speeds by 2029.
According to Ookla’s March 2025 report, Indonesia ranks 9th out of 10 ASEAN countries in mobile broadband download speeds, averaging 40.37 Mbps. The 2.6 GHz band was selected because it is a mid-band frequency with advantages in capacity and bandwidth availability (up to 190 MHz). With a strong global ecosystem of 4G and 5G devices, especially for time division duplex (TDD) mode, this band is expected to provide more reliable and high-quality broadband connectivity across Indonesia. Komdigi invites all stakeholders—including telecom industry players, academics, and the general public—to actively participate and provide feedback.
