Heaptalk, Jakarta – In this era, digital leadership holds a critical role to construct policy, which later builds digital culture. Regional Secretary of East Kalimantan Sri Wahyuni conveyed that the key point of digital leadership is the capability to overcome complex problems in new innovative ways, known as design thinking.
Sri delivered to attain this objective, digital leaders should possess several characteristics including agility, cross-hierarchy, cooperation, and team-oriented. Digital leaders also are required to have great digital literacy, vision in performing digitalization, advocacy, presence, communication, adaptability, self-awareness, and cultural awareness.
In more detail, she explained that digital literacy is not only about having the ability in using gadgets but also know the ethics to deal with the digital world. Sri also highlighted the communication point. In her view, to build good communication, a digital leader should put their position to be equal with their subordinate.
“Communication between boss and employee tends to be called as the instruction. The subordinates will not be free to express their ideas if we still ‘wear’ our position,” stated Sri.
On top of that, she highlighted the importance of digital leaders’ commitment to building digital culture. “Digital culture should be established comprehensively, and this goal can be achieved if the leaders hold their commitment,” stated Sri during Digital Leadership Training in Mercure Hotel, Jakarta. To measure the maturity of digitalization in a region, based on her experience in East Kalimantan, Sri, further, revealed three indicators, spanning website maturity indices, Electronic Government System Index (SPBE), and smart city.
