Heaptalk, Jakarta — For the first time, Kaimana Regency Government won Adipura Award 2023 from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Minister Siti Nurbaya handed over the award to Regent Freddy Thie at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta (03/05).
“Thank God, this award cannot be separated from the hard work of all parties, especially in maintaining cleanliness and waste management in Kaimana,” said Freddy Thei at the KLHK Auditorium (03/05).
Freddy Thie revealed the secret of his regency’s success in winning awards for environmental cleanliness and health management, one of which is by running the Kaimana zero waste program. This program is one of Kaimana’s visions which carries the spirit of a clean, free-waste regency. To achieve this, the Kaimana Regency Government deployed residents as monitoring officers.
“There will be a kind of social punishment by taking pictures of the violations that occur and making them viral on social media. Hopefully, this can have a deterrent effect on those who violate the program,” Freddy explained.
In addition, the Kaimana Regency Government has issued Regent Regulation No. 31 of 2021 on Garbage Disposal Hours. Freddy voiced, “Based on the Regent Regulation, garbage disposal hours are set from 18.00 to 22.00 Eastern Indonesia Time.”
Freddy expressed his pride as the region he leads is now the only regency/city in the Land of Papua that can win the Adipura Award. “Yes, Kaimana Regency is the only region in Papua that won the Adipura Award. This is also the first time Kaimana has won this prestigious award,” he concluded.
