Heaptalk, Jakarta — President of Indonesia, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, conducted a groundbreaking on the National Strategic Project (PSN) in the FakFak Fertilizer Industrial Area in conjunction with his working visit to inaugurate the Siboru Airport in West Papua.
“I greatly welcome the development of the National Strategic Project (PSN) in the FakFak Fertilizer Industrial Area, West Papua. We have had five fertilizer industrial areas in the western region for 40 years.” Jokowi said.
According to his statement, the government decided to build a fertilizer industrial area in FakFak considering to its location that is close to a gas supply source, which is able to support the big plan to make future food storage in Papua.
“We can also export most of the fertilizer products to Australia because they also import some fertilizer products from Indonesia and several from other countries. For this reason, I encourage the construction of this area to be completed by 2038. This project has an investment value of around Rp30 trillion.” Jokowi stated.
Furthermore, the leader of Indonesia expected that the fertilizer factory could elevate its production capacity to up to 1.15 million tons of urea fertilizer and 825,000 tons of ammonia yearly. Apart from these reasons, the PSN of the Fertilizer Industrial Area is also considered to support fertilizer needs in eastern Indonesia, such as Maluku and North Maluku.
Regarding human resource needs in Papua, Jokowi called on regional governments to adjust industry needs in the field. “I think this strategic step would unlock tremendous opportunity for the existing resources in Papua to develop the fertilizer industry in eastern Indonesia,” affirmed Jokowi.
