Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Joko Widodo inaugurated two toll road sections centered at the Sinaksak Toll Gate in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province, on Tuesday (09/10). One of the sections is the Binjai–Langsa Toll Road, specifically Section 2 Stabat–Tanjung Pura, which spans 26.2 kilometers.
“Thank God, this morning we are about to inaugurate the Binjai-Langsa Toll Road (Section 2 Stabat–Tanjung Pura), which has been under construction since 2020, stretching 26.2 km with a budget of Rp11.6 trillion,” said Jokowi.
In addition, the President also inaugurated the Kuala Tanjung–Tebing Tinggi–Parapat Toll Road (Sections 3 and 4), which is 45.6 km long and cost Rp6 trillion. This toll road began construction in 2018 and is a crucial part of the government’s larger plan to complete the Trans Sumatra Toll Road project. “This toll road will be part of the 2,994 km Trans Sumatra Toll Road, and we hope that by the end of the year, the Sumatra toll roads will reach 1,100 km,” Jokowi said.
During the event, Jokowi highlighted the significant benefits the community and businesses along the Binjai-Langsa and Tebing Tinggi-Parapat corridors will experience. With the operation of these toll roads, travel time from Medan to Simalungun has been shortened. He added, “Earlier, the Simalungun Regent mentioned that the trip from Medan used to take 3.5 to 4 hours. Now, it only takes about 1.5 hours, or a little less.”
Furthermore, Jokowi stated that the development of this toll road infrastructure is expected to spur new economic growth in various regions of North Sumatra and enhance logistics efficiency and regional competitiveness. “The logistics system, mobility of people, and goods will become faster, allowing us to compete with other countries,” Jokowi concluded.
