Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has established a collaboration with the University of Tokyo to advance artificial intelligence-based products.
Nezar Patria, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, highlighted the potential of this partnership during a meeting with Professor Yutaka Matsuo from the Department of Technology Management for Innovation at the University of Tokyo on Tuesday (04/29) at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) in Central Jakarta. “What Professor Yutaka Matsuo proposed—a collaboration on AI education curriculum development—is highly compelling. He emphasized enhancing technical aspects such as digital knowledge and skills,” Nezar stated.
According to Nezar, Prof. Matsuo also proposed applying AI as a technological answer to everyday challenges. Additionally, this partnership opens opportunities for Indonesia to learn from Japan’s approach in strengthening business solutions through AI.
“He encouraged us by citing Japan’s example, where individuals who received this education went on to establish startups that directly address societal issues. Or, when they engage in business, how can AI adoption reinforce the business solutions they develop?” Nezar explained.
While this meeting marks the initial stage of discussions on AI curriculum development with Japan, Nezar remains optimistic. He believes Prof. Matsuo and ERIA are keen to explore this partnership with Komdigi. As an AI technology expert and long-time advisor to the Japanese government, Prof. Matsuo is a key figure in bridging industry needs with AI-driven technological advancements, ultimately enhancing AI literacy among the Japanese public.
