Heaptalk, Jakarta — According to a recent press release, the National Traffic Police (Korlantas Polri) announced its plan to replace driving license numbers with the national identification number on the identity card.

Brigadier General Yusri Yunus, Director of Registration and Identification (Dirredigent) at Korlantas Polri, explained that this policy aligns with Polri’s vision of synergizing with the single data program. “Why use a national identification number? Because we are moving towards single data. When people search using a national identification number, all their data will appear. The identity card, driving license A, driving license C, tax number, BPJS, and other data will be accessible. With single data, everything becomes easier,” he said.

Yusri also advised that old driving license holders should not rush to replace theirs. “Current driving licenses can be used until they expire within the next five years. When it’s time to renew, the new policy will apply. We are making it easier, not changing everything at once,” he stated.

Although this change will be implemented in 2025, Yusri mentioned that Polri will conduct a trial starting on July 1, 2024. “Starting July 1, 2024, we will begin the socialization process. The changes will take effect according to the driving license’s validity period. When renewing, it will automatically change,” he concluded.
