Preparing for the use of SATRIA-1 satellite, several digital infrastructures has been prepared, including satellite communication ground segments and earth stations in 11 locations across Indonesia.
Heaptalk, Jakarta – In order to enhance digital infrastructure in Indonesia, the Authority is set to launch multi-function satellite SATRIA-1 this month.
Based on the General Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) Mira Tayyiba, SATRIA-1 Satellite is one of the national strategic projects initiated by Kominfo. This satellite will be launched this June at an orbit of 106 east longitudes and will start operating in Q4 this year.
Mira added that preparing for the use of this satellite, the Ministry has purveyed several communication infrastructures, including satellite communication ground segments and earth stations. This infrastructure is scattered in 11 locations across Indonesia, spanning Cikarang, Batam, Banjarmasin, Tarakan, Pontianak, Kupang, Ambon, Manado, Manokwari, Timika, and Jayapura.
Mira also delivered, “Hereafter, the utilization of Palapa Ring is 45% with Service Level Agreement of Palapa Ring operational service is 95%.”
Responding to this measure, Acting Minister Kominfo Mahfud MD stated that the emergence of digital technology has a critical role in embodying Indonesia’s vision in 2045. He also affirmed Economic digital, education activities and health services can be run smoothly with the support of adequate digital infrastructure.
This multifunction satellite is claimed as the Government effort to provide fast internet access that is evenly distributed across Indonesia. This measure also is one of the implementation of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo’s instruction in the Limited Meeting on August, 3rd 2020 regarding the acceleration of access expansion and the improvement of digital infrastructure.
