Heaptalk, Jakarta — The usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reinforce the development of the strategic sector has become the main focus for all countries around the globe. Deputy Minister of Communications and Information, Nezar Patria stated that the Indonesia government has a high commitment to respond the AI usage positively and strengthen the national AI ecosystem.

On Monday (05/02), in press release, the minister stated, “For example, in the economy, health, education and other sectors. These achievements need to be supported because AI will be the benchmark of digital technology in 5 to 10 years.”

Nezar assessed the development and growth of the AI ecosystem brings positive impact especially in terms of use which can make it easier and help the strategic sectors. He thought that Indonesia’s preparation is still in the AI development stage. Thus, the Minister of Kominfo is currently adopting the prototype that has been developed by developed countries.

“We have adopted a number of foundation models, we even contribute to develop the AI Generative for Natural Language Processing by several startups as well as data processing by using AI in the marketing sector. It is also starting in the health, agriculture, and other sectors that are currently in the developing and expansion process,” he explained.

Deputy Minister Nezar identified there are two patterns of regulation of the use of artificial intelligence technology. The differences in approach are filled with the dynamic of dialogue concerning Global AI Governance.

“Some have tried horizontally where the orientation tends to use development AI principles of the European Union countries. There is also a direct vertical approach to sectors that are handled by America and China,” he explained.

Nezar thought, these days countries from all around the globe are currently competing in the global racing for AI development that led by America and China and several European countries.

“We also notice there is a global concern due to the risks of AI development to public in different sectors and in every aspect of their life,” he continued.

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria ensured that the government of the Republic of Indonesia will always support AI development in Indonesia.

“For this matter, Kominfo fully supports the effort for AI development that has been carried by startup companies and also several national and international technology companies that are operating in Indonesia,” he concluded.
