Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) emphasized that the government has rejected the demand for a US$8 million, approximately Rp131 billion ransom, and opted for an independent route to restore public data in the National Data Center (PDN).
The Minister Budi Arie Setiadi affirmed, “The government will not pay the hackers’ demands,”
Despite the hacking incident that disrupted the National Data Center, Budi reassured the public that their data remains secure.
“We have to wait because the recovery is in progress. Most importantly, we have managed to address the public service,” Budi asserted.
Even though Indonesia is facing a data breach, he further acknowledged that the government has implemented a potent cybersecurity system in Indonesia.
“Yes, just wait; the matter is being worked on. The important thing is that we have managed to address the public service center. We are doing our best. We continue to perform evaluations with many parties. While the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) still conducting forensic analysis to recover our PDN,” Minister Budi explained.
On the other hand, the Minister of Tech declined to disclose the suspected hacker of this issue. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the government is dealing with the hacking incident.
