Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Joko Widodo plans to inaugurate Siboru Airport and attend the groundbreaking for the construction of the PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) plant in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province in mid-November 2023.

With the construction process starting in 2020, Siboru Airport is targeted to operate in 2023. As of the third week of August 2022, progress on the construction of the air side had reached 83.86%, while construction of the land side such as terminals had reached 54.21%, according to information from the Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Provision (KPPIP).

Meanwhile, regarding the construction of the Pupuk Kalimantan Timur plant, Fakfak Regent Untung Tamsil explained that the Fakfak Regency Government had held a limited meeting with PKT and the Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia in Jakarta (10/13).

“In the meeting, which was also attended by Vice Regent Yohana Dina Hindom, Regional Secretary of Fakfak Ali Baham Temongmere, and Fakfak House Speaker Siti Rahma Hagemur, we discussed the groundbreaking of the PKT plant. We arranged for President Jokowi to attend the groundbreaking of the PKT plant and the inauguration of Siboru Airport,” Untung explained.

Further, Untung handed over the technical implementation of the groundbreaking ceremony to the PKT. He said, “The ceremony will be handled by Pupuk Kaltim. We from the regency government only prepare permits.” In mid-October 2023, the Fakfak Regency Government will hold a meeting with indigenous communities to discuss preparations for the event.

For information, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur will build its plant in the Fakfak Industrial Area, West Papua. As a national strategic project, the construction of this plant is one of the company’s efforts to support national food security. This project is worth an investment of more than US$1 billion. The plant is projected to produce 1.15 tonnes of urea fertilizer per year and 825,000 tonnes of ammonia per year. (Translated by Sinta)
