Heaptalk, Jakarta — Highland Papua Provincial Government is making multiple efforts to introduce its superior craft products, one of which is by participating in Inacraft 2024. The exhibition takes place at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) from February 28 to March 3.
According to the Head of the Family Welfare Program Mobilization Team (TP-PKK) for Highland Papua Province Herwin Meiliantina Wanggai, as a new autonomous region, this event is the first exhibition participated in by the province to promote local craft products.
“We took the initiative to participate in Inacraft by joining other participants from all over Indonesia and abroad with a total of around 1,800 stands. Thank God Jokowi and the First Lady stopped by the Highland Papua stand to cheer us on. The First Lady was interested in seeing the kurulu flowers,” voiced Herwin.
She further conveyed that there were several guests from abroad, including Germany, Europe, Korea, and Japan who stopped by the stand. They appreciate handicraft products from Highland Papua made from natural ingredients. “In the future, we from the PKK will start coordinating with the PKK in the regencies to see local works in the regencies to be promoted again at the event to be held next August,” Herwin added.
Meanwhile, Highland Papua PKK member Rode Nirigi explained that she was delighted and enthusiastic to be involved in this event. Participation in Inacraft 2024 provides the opportunity to showcase creativity from craftsmen in Highland Papua.
“On the first day, many guests from abroad visited us, such as from Japan who ordered 3,000 noken (knotted net or woven bag) to be sent there. Apart from that, visitors from Malaysia ordered noken and other accessories. There was also a Korean lecturer who orders for the education section,” Rode uttered.
Rode revealed that this achievement is an encouragement that the works of Highland Papua craftsmen not only attract local but also international buyers. “All the works, including the noken and others, are part of the Highland Papua’s high civilization,” he concluded.
