Heaptalk, Jakarta — Starting May 6, 2024, the Indonesian Government will no longer limit goods sent by Indonesian migrant workers. The Director of Imports at the Ministry of Trade, Arif Sulistyo, explained that this policy was adopted after the revision of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 7 of 2024.
“The material being revised is goods sent by Indonesian migrant workers or Indonesian workers (PMI/TKI), passengers’ personal luggage, and an evaluation of the regulation of several industrial raw material commodities,” Arif said during the socialization of the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 7 of 2024 on Directorate General of Foreign Trade’s YouTube account Thursday (05/02).
Arif explained that with the revision of these regulations, goods shipped by migrant workers would no longer be limited. However, prohibited and dangerous goods are still banned from being sent. Second, there is no limit on the number of items in each delivery.
“The important point is that there are no restrictions on types of goods except prohibited and dangerous goods. Prohibited goods are regulated by Minister of Trade Regulation No. 40 of 2022. Goods related to dangerous goods and safety, health, and environment cannot enter the Indonesian customs area,” he explained.
Closing his remarks, Arif conveyed that the policy on goods sent by migrant workers returns to the Minister of Finance Regulation No. 141 of 2023 on Provisions for the Import of Goods of Indonesian Migrant Workers. In this regulation, imports of goods sent by migrant workers are not limited to the type and quantity of goods and can be imported either new or used as long as the value of the goods is not more than US$1,500 per year.
