Heaptalk, Jakarta — After having a discussion with President Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has announced the schedule for the regional head inauguration elected in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections. The inauguration will be held on February 20, 2025.
“The inauguration, originally scheduled for February 6, has been postponed as the Constitutional Court expedited the reading of the dismissal decision in the 2024 regional election dispute,” Tito Karnavian stated.
According to Constitutional Court Regulation No. 1 of 2025, the dismissal decision will be read on February 4-5, 2025, earlier than the previous schedule of February 15, 2025. This decision will determine which regional election cases can proceed to the proof stage and which must be stopped. If a case is dismissed, the local General Election Commission (KPU) can immediately declare the winning candidates in that region.
During a press conference, Tito explained that the government initially planned the regional head inauguration on February 18, 19, and 20. However, after reporting this plan to Prabowo, the president chose February 20 as a Thursday. The inauguration of the regional heads is planned to take place in the nation’s capital, although the specific location is still under discussion.
However, Tito emphasized that the nation’s capital referred to in this case is not the new capital city (IKN) but Jakarta. “I want to clarify here since I’ve seen in the news that the nation’s capital is considered IKN Nusantara. According to the law, the relocation of the capital must be established by a Presidential Regulation. As long as the Presidential Regulation for the new capital is not operational, the capital remains Jakarta,” Tito concluded.
