Heaptalk, Jakarta — Nusantara Capital (IKN) offers affordable subsidized housing for lower-middle income communities.
Endra S. Atmawidjaja, Expert Staff to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for Technology, Industry, and Environment, and spokesperson for the Ministry stated in Jakarta, “IKN is not only for civil servants (ASN), as there are also communities in the area who will blend and live alongside the ASN. Therefore, the principle of balanced housing will still be implemented in IKN.”
The balanced housing policy is a national commitment to providing decent and affordable housing for the community. The concept of balanced housing development in Nusantara Capital can help address the housing backlog. However, it must also adhere to the green, smart, and livable city the new capital promotes.
Moreover, the balanced housing development is intended to offer affordable housing options for people who will move to IKN, including civil servants who want to own a house. This step is part of the Nusantara Capital Authority’s efforts to create an inclusive and community-friendly area by providing comfortable and affordable housing options.
However, PUPR is unsure when the subsidized housing market will enter the new capital since the Authority is still preparing the zoning for subsidized housing. “The subsidized housing market will enter IKN. Otherwise, where will drivers and store employees live? It’s being prepared (the development of subsidized housing),” Endra explained.
These lower-middle-income houses will be located within the Nusantara Capital, not on its outskirts. Endra emphasized that this aligns with IKN’s tagline as an inclusive city. “There will certainly be specific zones. There will be (subsidized housing in IKN), as IKN is not an exclusive city. President (Joko Widodo) always says, ‘This is an inclusive city. ‘ Hence, anyone can live in IKN, including people from all social groups. It’s not only for the wealthy,” Endra concluded.
