Heaptalk, Jakarta — To create a more modern and sustainable transmigration program, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), as stated by Minister Meutya Hafid on Thursday (03/06), has prepared digital infrastructure and literacy initiatives.
“With this step, it is hoped that transmigration areas can develop into competitive digital-based economic centers,” Meutya said during a meeting with the Minister of Transmigration, Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman, at the Komdigi office in Central Jakarta (03/06).
She further emphasized that digitalization is key to improving the welfare of communities in transmigration areas. She stated, “Ministry of Komdigi is ready to support transmigration transformation through digitalization. We want to ensure that communication technology and infrastructure can be utilized to the fullest to enhance the well-being of transmigrant communities.”
As a concrete form of support, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will assist in disseminating information about the transmigration program transformation through multiple mass media platforms and national television. “We will promote this program widely so the public understands its benefits. Media plays a crucial role in accelerating the community’s adoption and acceptance of this program,” she added.
This transmigration transformation program is designed to address long-standing challenges in transmigration implementation, which previously focused more on relocating populations without adequate infrastructure support. One of the innovations introduced is the Patriot Transmigration Program, which aims to create superior and resilient human resources by building local schools in transmigration areas in collaboration with national universities.
In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is also pushing to develop digital villages as part of the smart village ecosystem to support modern transmigration program. Implementing digital villages is expected to improve access to information and digital-based business opportunities for communities in transmigration areas. Meutya explained, “We want to expand the Smart City concept to the village level so that transmigrant communities can enjoy the benefits of digital technology in various aspects of life, including the economy, education, and public services.”
On the infrastructure side, Komdigi will ensure the availability of adequate communication networks in transmigration areas. Wayan Toni Supriyanto, the Director-General of Digital Infrastructure, affirmed that 4G networks already cover most of Indonesia, but challenges remain in providing optimal network capacity in some regions. “We will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure that telecommunication infrastructure in transmigration areas is adequately met,” he concluded.
