“Hereafter, the local government planned to rebrand Prevab Mentoko – orangutan conservation which has become a creative tourism destination.”

Heaptalk, Surabaya — In order to improve Smart City implementation in Indonesia, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) organized the first phase evaluation of Smart City implementation by adopting theme “Educating City and Regency for Indonesian Smart” in Surabaya (06/12). Attending this agenda, East Kutai Government revealed its master plan to elevate Smart City development in the regency.

The master plan was delivered by the regency’s representative, Ery Mulyadi, who sits as the head of East Kutai’s Communication and Information Technology Department. In his explanation, Ery stated that the Smart City implementation in the regency is based on a Smart City master plan which was formulated based on Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) period 2021-2026. The regency also has performed several adjustments which was reflected in the master plan.

He conveyed that previously, the Regency won Smart City Award 2021 for Smart Branding category due to its branding initiatives for Stingless Bee. For the next step, the local government planned to rebrand Prevab Mentoko, orangutan conservation which has become a creative tourism destination. This plan is contained in the regency’s RPJMD, period 2021 – 2026.

“Prevab Mentoko can be Orangutan research study and one of the ecology tourism destinations in East Kutai. Thus, it can be a place for research and education,” stated Ery.

In addition to performing Smart Branding initiative, the regency also plans to amplify its Smart Living dimension in Bukit Pelangi. This area combines office, SMEs’ activities, and urban living. Botanical Garden that features East Kutai’s endemic species and plants also is found in the area. Moreover, a giant Liebherr T282 truck weighing 237 tons is built in  Bukit Pelangi as a mining icon. The building process of this icon is completed, but the infrastructure facilities are not fully completed yet. Therefore, Ery stated that the icon is not ready to open yet.
