Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) cautioned regional heads not to engage in corrupt activities attending the retreat. If they do, they will face legal consequences.
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin emphasized this warning during his speech at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) event. “Essentially, it’s a reminder not to commit corruption—that’s it. If you do, I’ll take action,” he told the media after presenting to regional heads at the Tidar Valley of Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java, on Tuesday night (02/25).
In his directive, Attorney General Burhanuddin emphasized the importance of regional heads performing their duties well and avoiding actions that could harm the country’s finances. He underscored that corruption not only harms the state but also hinders progress. Its impacts include slowing economic growth, reducing investment, and lowering the quality of infrastructure. “Creating poverty and income inequality, thus damaging public trust, which triggers the quality of government operations,” he explained.
Therefore, corruption must be avoided. Prevention strategies must start from within by instilling anti-corruption values. Additionally, regional heads are expected to lead efforts to eradicate corruption by setting an example for the public. They also need to apply principles of integrity, accountability, transparency, and professionalism and conduct governance following the general principles of good administration.
Meanwhile, at the same event, Agustina Arumsari, Deputy Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), reminded of the potential for corrupt acts that must be watched, including in licensing services. Therefore, she emphasized the importance of strict supervision.
Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of oversight in planning and budgeting as a preventive measure against corruption. She also presented various findings from the supervision carried out by her agency.
