Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) is preparing the Republic of Indonesia Satellite-1 (Satria-1) to accelerate digital access in Central Maluku.

On Tuesday (05/06), Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the government continues to expand digital connectivity in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions to improve digital infrastructure utilization.

“Equalizing digital connectivity is one of our key initiatives to accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation. Central Maluku Regency is among the regions prioritized by the Ministry. For areas with blank spots (no coverage), we encourage consultations so we can assist. Suppose a location is not classified as a 3T region. In that case, it will be considered commercial, and we can coordinate with cellular operators to encourage the construction of base transceiver stations (BTS) to improve connectivity,” Nezar said during a meeting with Central Maluku Regent Zulkarnain Awat Amir at the Ministry’s office in Central Jakarta.

Satria-1 will support Internet access in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas. The Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) under Komdigi will identify and provide service points for education, healthcare, government, and defense. “Satria-1 can deliver speeds of 3 to 4 Mbps. We will assess which areas can benefit from this satellite. Ground segments can be installed in strategic locations to support education, healthcare, governance, and defense,” he explained.

Nezar emphasized that the Ministry also focuses on enhancing digital literacy to ensure communities can maximize existing connectivity for impactful activities. “Digital literacy is essential to raise public awareness. It also educates people about the dangers of hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Nezar pushed for digital capacity-building among local government officials through programs like the Digital Talent Scholarship and Digital Leadership Academy. “We are also intensifying efforts to accelerate electronic-based government systems (SPBE),” he concluded.
