Heaptalk, Jakarta — On every February 9, press people in Indonesia celebrate National Press Day. Even if it is considered late, the Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin also conveyed his greeting of Happy National Press Day 2024 to the rest of the party throughout the country.

On Sunday (11/02), through a press release from the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Masduki Baidlowi, K.H. Ma’ruf Amin requested the Indonesian press to continue in maintaining the role and its function as the fourth democracy pillar after executive, legislative and judicial.

“As the fourth pillar of democracy, K.H. Ma’ruf Amin hoped for the Indonesian press to continue its role and function as the social control, strengthen the democracy, contribute to the knowledge of the nation, and act as a way to uphold the supremacy law,” said the Spokesperson.

In order to hold a democratic 2024 Election, Masduki Baidlowi expected for the Indonesian press to be able to sustain its integrity and independence.

“So the press can continue as the forefront in order to create an honest, just, and peaceful transitioning leadership period with strong political, legal and ethical legitimacy,” he said.

For the informational context, referring to the official website of Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), the celebration of 2024 National Press Day brought a theme of “Mengawal Transisi Kepemimpinan Nasional dan Menjaga Keutuhan Bangsa”. This theme includes a firm message to all press members to maintain national integrity amid the 2024 Election dispute.

Other than the theme, PWI also released the 2024 National Press Day Logo in the form of HPN writing with a combination of red, yellow, green and blue surrounded by three animal characters. At the bottom, there is a word of 2024 National Press Day Jakarta that marks the HPN 2024 celebration that will be located in Jakarta and planned to be held on February 20.

The decision of National Press Day celebration every February 9 is based on the Presidential Decree (keppres) Number 5 of 1985 that was signed by President Soeharto on January 23, 1985. There was also the first HPN celebration that was officially celebrated on February 9, 1985 at the Jakarta Fair Main Building.
