Heaptalk, Jakarta – During the press release on Monday (26/02), the Press Council explained type of legal entity that is allowed to develop a media company in print, electronic, or cyber. Said legal entity is a Limited Liability Company (PT) not an Individual PT.
Press Council Member, Ninik Rahayu, explained that the Press Law Number 40 of 1999 regulates legal entities establishing press companies, namely PT and Cooperatives for commercial whereas institutions are for non commercial. However, the term individual PT (limited liability company) recently appears in the Job Creation law. This evoke an ambiguity requirements for developing press company.
“I have mentioned that Individual PT is not for building press company, rather for MSMEs to help the management easier,” Ninik stated.
Through this opportunity, Ninik explained about the importance of media’s stance that will become partners with locals. She believed medias that are allowed to work with local and central government must be registered and verified by the press council.
“It’s true that accessing information shouldn’t be restricted in reporting news. But for businesses, government regulations, verified by the press council, are necessary,” she stated..
Concerning press company verification by the Press Council, media actors have exhibited strict behavior. Consequently, the Press Council has assembled a team to conduct a comprehensive investigation into administrative requirements, from content to cyber media.
Ninik also mentioned, to verify especially for the administrative, Press Council will check thorougly from payroll transfers to BPJS Employment.
