Heaptalk, Jakarta — Regent FX Yapan officially opened the entire series of Dahau Sendawar Festival activities in celebration of the 24th West Kutai Anniversary at the Sendawar Cultural Park (10/23).
In his opening remarks, FX Yapan asked all parties to make the Dahau Festival an encouragement to embody a fair, more independent, and prosperous West Kutai Regency by upholding society’s economy and improving the quality of human resources.
“On behalf of the West Kutai Regency Government, I welcome and appreciate the diverse activities carried out in celebration of the 24th anniversary of West Kutai which consistently show the richness and pride of our ancestral heritage. This is proof that the struggle to develop West Kutai continues to be carried out,” stated FX Yapan at the opening of the Dahau Festival in Sendawar (10/23).
According to FX Yapan, this festival has been designed comprehensively by showcasing cultural preservation through various traditional ceremonies, traditional sports, and cultural arts performances. Apart from that, the event also presents health services, promotes local food consumption through food festivals, and disseminates development information in the regency. These activities are hoped to encourage the enthusiasm and awareness of every citizen to participate in showing West Kutai as Tanaa Purai Ngeriman, (means: fertile and rich land).
On the occasion, Regent FX Yapan also asked the public to understand the meaning of the Dahau Festival. He voiced, “From today until November 5, we have a primary agenda through the West Kutai anniversary celebration known as the Dahau Festival. Therefore, I ask the public to deeply understand the meaning of this festival.”
The Dahau Festival is organized from October 23 to November 5, 2023, to commemorate the anniversary of West Kutai Regency. This event displays the culture and customs of the six sub-ethnic Dayak tribes in the regency, spanning Dayak Tunjung, Benuaq, Bahau, Kenyah, Aoheng, and Malay. The Dahau Festival is an annual agenda for West Kutai which is included in the events calendar for East Kalimantan Province. (Translated by Sinta)
