Heaptalk.com, Jakarta – Entering the industrial era 4.0, business people must start to get used to various kinds of digital terms, or in other words, have an open-minded attitude. This is important because at this time technology is growing faster, while from the industrial side if it cannot keep up with these changes, it will be difficult to be sustainable.

From the market side, for example, users tend to choose a practical product. So, when we offer them a product or service that requires them to put more effort into it, they tend to avoid it. For example, in the online food delivery industry, the growth of this industry is faster than in conventional industries. This proves that digitalization is capable of disrupting the existing market and acquiring its users.

Prof. Eko Budiardjo, Professor of Fasilkom UI, and chairman of the association of the computer and informatics profession emphasized the need for a digital mindset for each individual, not only business owners but also at the employee level.

“For example, if we look at the history of computer development to date, 200 years ago it was in the form of booleans, 0 and 1, then by George Boole, it was developed using mathematical logic so that bytes appeared. From these bytes later expanded with contributions from physics into microelectronic transistors, and then came the Chip. The chip has been amazingly developed, now it has reached 30GB, as well as the current 54GB GPU transistor, 137GB memory, and up to 2 TB of flash memory. “ Prof Eko said, in a Fasilkom UI Webinar.

Thus, by this technology advancement, it substitutes a lot of roles in many departments including marketing that now can be done online, operations, development, human resources, healthcare, front liner, and many more.

Along with the development in terms of hardware, it also develops in terms of software, so that a digital mindset becomes a must-have to keep up with the development of this technology.

Regarding this, Prof. Eko also added that a digital mindset is not only about having the ability to use technology. Rather, it is the attitudes and needs that allow a person and an organization to predict all possible possibilities. Examples are Social Media, Big Data, Data Analysis, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Blockchain, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality.

Therefore, organizations and companies need talents who have a digital mindset like this, which is characterized by the ability to understand the power of technology to be able to apply it to an organization or company environment, be able to carry out process efficiency in it, be able to map growth hacking strategies and scale up the business. , to do social engineering.

More deeply, Professor Eko mapped 5 insights from this digital mindset

Technology changes faster than organizations

As an example, it can be seen from Moore’s Law that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles every two years, though the cost of computers is halved. In practice, this is growing exponentially. While it’s referring to George’s law, technology changes rapidly, but organizational growth is slower. This is what must be resolved that by preparing talents with a digital vision, an organization will remain aware of technological developments and gain better revenue.

Mindset gaps can hinder digital transformation

At this point, talent is very important. On the one hand, this is a tougher challenge to encourage people to accept the right mindset for them to develop. Don’t let what you are trying to offer has been made by the market much earlier, so it seems old fashioned.

Digital intelligence will lead the way for progress

2 – 3 more people in the organization having digital intelligence will result in higher margins. Research conducted by MIT students, Peter Weill and Stephanie Woerner show organizations that implement this correctly generate 17% higher profit, 38% higher revenue growth, 34% higher return on assets, and 34% higher market cap growth. So that our ability to information and communication technology in an organization is very important.

Consumers can also be digital innovators

Consumers can innovate effectively, especially if the current market cannot satisfy their needs. So that the role of social media is important, digital marketing talent is needed, especially to get feedback from the audience.

Digital brings hope as well as pitfalls

No matter how convenient the technology we use, there is a dark side inside. Either way can compromise your data, privacy, or security. Therefore, businesses need to overcome these risks to ensure their products enter the market, remain competitive, and are protected by security.
