Heaptalk, Jakarta – Sustainability continues to be a hot topic globally, with wide-reaching impacts on not only social and environmental issues, but also the global economy. In support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the fashion industry, A2C hosted Wear Kind 2025 on April 19 at the Raden Saleh Auditorium, LPPI Jakarta. With the tagline “Kindness in Every Kain,” the educational event aims to raise awareness about sustainable fashion, particularly the importance of embracing slow fashion.
“The main goal of Wear Kind is to increase public awareness that fashion is not just about trends, but also about responsibility,” said Claudya Edith Pondaag, a representative of Wear Kind.
She added, “We want more people to understand that choosing and caring for clothes thoughtfully through slow fashion benefits not only the environment but also supports a fairer and more sustainable fashion industry. Through this event, we hope to encourage a shift toward more conscious consumption, ultimately reducing fashion’s negative impact on the planet.”
Wear Kind is a non-thesis project initiated by A2C, a postgraduate student group from LSPR’s Institute of Communication & Business. The event featured a variety of activities related to slow fashion, including a talk show, embroidery and upcycling workshops in collaboration with the Inisulamanku community, a mini fashion bazaar, and a musical performance by DJ lon Darsela.
“This event challenged us to curate engaging, fun, and memorable activities while keep on track to the slow fashion movement,” Claudya added.
More than just promoting creativity, the event also instilled the values of slow fashion into everyday life. Melvin Bonardo, a lecturer at LSPR, emphasized the event’s commitment to consistency: “Everything from upstream to downstream must align with the slow fashion theme. For instance, even the event crew’s attire had to reflect slow fashion principles. There was also a donation initiative—guests were encouraged to donate one item of clothing for every item they purchased.”
During the talk show, the event welcomed Dino Augusto, a fashion scholar, who discussed the concept of conscious fashion and how to choose clothing that lasts longer. Meanwhile, Yosi Twentiarani, an SDGs Certified Leader, shared insights on the fashion industry’s connection to sustainable development. Yosi highlighted how responsible fashion consumption supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by educating people on sustainable fashion, and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by encouraging environmentally friendly consumption habits.
Prior to the main event, a social media campaign titled #EveryPieceTellsAKindStory ran from March 17 to April 7, featuring a creative content competition focused on sustainable fashion mix-and-match styles.
To close the event, a donation campaign called #TheFabricOfOurHearts was launched, inviting attendees to donate used clothing made from natural fibers such as cotton, denim, or rayon. In collaboration with Ecotouch, the donated materials will be repurposed into soundproof insulation or weaving yarn—extending the life cycle of clothing and reducing textile waste
