Heaptalk, Jakarta — A Muslim fashion show event, Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2023, held on October 20th – 22nd in ICE BSD, has officially opened by the Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin.
In his opening speech, Ma’ruf Amin delivered Indonesia’s vision to become a Muslim fashion capital worldwide, as the fashion business is a great value business. He also elaborated that Muslim women’s expenses worldwide in the fashion sector have attained US$44 billion for 2016 – 2017. Perceiving this significant value, Ma’ruf estimated the fashion shopping value would achieve US$311 billion in 2024.
On the other hand, Vice-President Ma’ruf added, “While in the country, the fashion industry has also demonstrated excellent progress of 18.2% growth with a total consumption of US$19.2 billion. In addition, the Muslim fashion trade has also increased significantly, reaching 12.5% or nearly US$4.6 billion in 2021. As the country with the largest Muslim population worldwide, we must capture this potential to realize the archipelago becoming a global Muslim fashion center,”
Moreover, in his further explanation, Muslim fashion in Indonesia would continue to develop as the local designers have adopted the weaving and batik to create a unique value compared to Muslim fashion designs of other countries. Ma’ruf also revealed the beauty of wastra Indonesia products had obtained outstanding recognition through the Endek Weaving from Bali for the Dior Mode House in 2021.
“We have to be proud of adopting a genuine raw material of Indonesia towards the Muslim fashion products while protecting Indonesia’s cultural heritage of a claim issue from other countries. Thus, I look forward to all stakeholders utilizing our entire asset to advance the fashion with creativity, innovation, collaboration, and research-based strategy,” Ma’ruf added.
The Vice-President also suggested that fashion practitioners continue to enhance the Muslim sports fashion product and involve numerous parties, including the government, private sectors, entrepreneurs, celebrities, MSMEs, and the national athlete, to compete globally. He also encourages the Ministry of Trade party to continue holding numerous Muslim fashion events and using digital technology to spread the fashion progress in the country to attract global attention.
“I appreciate the endeavor of multiple parties to seize business opportunities in the Muslim fashion industry while preparing the country’s goals of becoming the halal center in 2024 and leading the positions of Jakarta as the Fashion Capital like New York, London, Paris, and Milan. For this reason, I declare the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week 2023 is officially opened,” Ma’ruf said in his statement.
