Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesia’s iron and steel industry enters a new chapter with the opening of the Iron-Steel Summit & Exhibition Indonesia 2025 (ISSEI), which officially began today, May 21, 2025, at Hall A-B, Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
The event, which will run until May 23, is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA) and the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEAISI), with full support from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.
Carrying the theme “Together with the National Steel Industry to Build the Foundation for Indonesia Golden 2045”, ISSEI 2025 provides a platform for all stakeholders in the steel industry, from upstream to downstream, the government, associations, and the education sector to collaborate. The main goal is to strengthen the steel industry’s position as a key pillar in supporting national economic development towards the vision of Indonesia Golden 2045.
The opening of ISSEI 2025 was attended by key figures, including government officials, association leaders, and international delegates. In his speech, IISIA Chairman and President Director of PT Krakatau Steel, Muhamad Akbar Djohan, emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration between the steel industry and the government to face global challenges.
“Today marks an important moment for us, a collaboration between SEAISI and IISIA, to create a stronger, more competitive, and sustainable ASEAN steel industry,” said Akbar.
SEAISI Chairman Dato Lim Hong Thye shared his insights. He stated that Indonesia holds a very strategic role in the Southeast Asian steel industry landscape. He also highlighted the importance of adopting environmentally friendly technologies as a step towards a more sustainable steel industry.
During the three-day event, ISSEI 2025 will feature a variety of engaging activities, including national seminars, panel discussions, expert talk shows, exhibitions of the latest products and technologies, business matching, and the Green Steel Building competition. All these activities are designed to strengthen the resilience of the national steel industry and accelerate the sector’s contribution to realizing Indonesia Golden 2045.
Furthermore, ISSEI 2025 also serves as an important platform for showcasing innovations in steel products that support national infrastructure development, including strategic national projects. The environmentally friendly technologies on display are also expected to help reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency in the steel sector.
The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, who attended the opening ceremony, emphasized the need for structured and well-planned steps for large producers in the steel industry. “Now is the time for the steel industry to become stronger and more organized in facing global challenges,” said Airlangga.
